Student Parent Krystle Pale Provides Testimony for GAINS for Student Parents Act (AB 2458)

/

On April 2,  UC Santa Cruz student parent Krystle Pale and California Competes Policy Director AJ Johnson joined Assemblymember Marc Berman at the California State Assembly Higher Education Committee hearing to share why the GAINS for Student Parents Act (AB 2458) is critical for expanding financial aid access and helping colleges more comprehensively understand the needs of the student parents they serve. Watch the recording of the testimony here.

It was unanimously passed! Thanks to all the partners and students that came out to show their support for AB 2458.

“AB 2458 would streamline access to benefits that student parents are already eligible for. We’re not asking for anything new or additional. We’re asking for student parents’ expenses to be treated the same way we treat other student expenses, like housing, food, and transportation. [This bill] could remove hours of systemic struggle and allow student parents to focus on what really matter—being a parent and studying.”

– Krystle Pale, student parent at UC Santa Cruz
