On behalf of The California Alliance for Student Parent Success (The Alliance), we are proud to share our policy agenda, “Empowering Bright Futures: The Alliance’s Policy Agenda for California’s Leaders to Support Student Parents and Their Families.” Developed in collaboration with The Alliance’s Advisory Committee, including student parents, this agenda will guide our efforts over the next three years.
The agenda calls on California policymakers and higher education leaders to prioritize five core strategies:

Strengthen financial aid to cover student parents’ true college costs

Provide enough quality, affordable child care options to address student parents’ needs

Meet the housing needs of student parents and their families

Advance family-serving institutional policies and practices

Collect and utilize data on student parents’ pathways to improve their well-being and success
